Relieving Distress of Others One of the greatest things that will relieve a person's distress on the Day of Resurrection is his efforts in this world to relieve the distress of those who are in distress, and to help those who are in need, and to make things easy for those who are in difficulty, and to overlook the mistakes of those who err. In Muslim it is narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: " Whoever relieves a believer of distress in this world, Allah will relieve him of some of the distress of the Day of Resurrection. Whoever makes things easy for those who are in difficulty, Allah will make things easy for him in this world and in the next. Whoever conceals (the faults of) a Muslim in this world, Allah will conceal him (his faults) in this world and in the Hereafter. Allah will help the slave so long as the slave helps his brother. " [ Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh , 1/71, hadith no. 204.] Bukhari narrated from Abdullah

Wudhu.....more than just a ritual

Wudhu.....more than just a ritual Allah, the Exalted, says: " O you who believe! When you intend to offer Sala ah (prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, wipe (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. If you are in a state of Janaba (i.e., after a s . e . x . u . a . l discharge), purify yourselves (bathe your whole body). But if you are ill or on a journey, or any of you comes from responding to the call of nature, or you have been in contact with your women (i.e., s . e . x . u . a . l intercourse) and you find no water, then perform Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands. Allah does not want to place you in difficulty, but He wants to purify you, and to complete His Favour to you that you may be thankful .'' ( Qur'an Surah 5 , verse 6) Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard my Khalil (the Messenger of Allah (P eace and blessings be upon him ) as

The Five Levels of Prayer

Image
The Five Levels of Prayer Ibn al-Qayyim writes in his book al-Wabil al-Sayyib: "When it comes to prayer, people are of five levels: * The first is the level of the one who wrongs himself and is negligent. He does not do wudu properly, or pray at the right time or make sure he does all the necessary parts of prayer. * The second is one who observes the outward essentials of prayer, prays on time and does wudu, but he has lost the battle against his own self and is overwhelmed with waswaas (insinuations). * The third is one who observes the outward essentials of prayer, prays on time and does wudu, and also strives against his own self and against waswaas, but he is preoccupied with his struggle against his enemy (Shaytan), lest he steal from his prayer, so he is engaged in salah and jihad at the same time. * The fourth is one who when he stands up to pray, he fulfils all the requirements of the prayer, and his heart is fully focused and alert lest he omit anything, and hi

Time is a sword...Strike a balance

Image
Time is a sword...Strike a balance "By time, verily man is at loss" so begins one of the shortest surah in the Qur'an. The majority of the mufassireen (commentators) are of the opinion that the word Asr refers to time. Allah takes oath by time to impress upon us the importance of time. Perhaps, for many of us, this is the period when we are most conscious of the precious nature of time, as we try to stretch every second while gearing toward the all important exams. At a time like this when our minds are most focused and yet most distracted, we have to stop and take a moment to reflect and take stock of our lives. We have to ask ourselves what our goals and priorities in life are, and most importantly how we are expending the commodity upon which Allah has taken an oath? This article started with the first verse of surah al-Asr. But do we truly understand the implications of this surah and put it into practise in our lives? Perhaps, you may he thinking that such assertions

Guidelines for Tayammum

Image
AsSalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatu. Guidelines for Performing Tayammum AUTHOR: Shaikh `Abdullaah bin Saalih Al-`Ubaylaan SOURCE: His book as-Salaat (The Prayer), which is a transcription of a lecture he gave (pg. 26-28) PRODUCED BY: Al-Ibaanah.com Tayammum is done as a substitution for water. The proof for this is Allaah's saying: "…and you find no water, then perform Tayammum with good earth, wiping your faces and hands with it." [Surah Al- Maa'idah: 6] And also the Prophet's (sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam) saying: "The earth was made a masjid (place of prayer) and purity for me." [Reported by Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim] Tayammum is permitted in two situations: 1. When there is no water to be found 2. When one is not able to use it due to sickness and so on. Tayammum can be performed for both types of ritual impurities (hadath): 1. Minor Impurity such as urine and feces, and 2. Major Impurity such as sexual relations or semen excretion. It is per

The One Who Commits Suicide

“The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: Whoever kills himself with something in this world will be punished with it on the Day of Resurrection” Sahih Al Bukhari - Hadith No. 5700 The One Who Commits Suicide Taken from 'Al-Kabair' The Major Sins By Imaam ad-Dhahabi The Major sin - Twenty-Five The One Who Commits Suicide which is from the Greatest of Sins Allaah Ta'aala says: << And do not kill yourselves, indeed Allaah is Most Merciful to you. And whoever commits that through aggression and injustice, We shall cast him into the Fire, and that is easy for Allaah. If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden to do, We shall remit from you your (small) sins, and admit you to a Noble Entrance ( i.e. Paradise). >> Allaah Ta'aala says: << And those who invoke not any other ilâh (god) along with Allaah, nor kill such life as Allaah has forbidden…...>> 191 - Narrated by Jundub i

One who ridicules those who wear the proper hijab

Image
As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh One who ridicules those who wear the proper hijab Question: What is the ruling concerning one who ridicules those who wear the proper hijab and cover their faces and hands? Response: Whoever ridicules a Muslim woman or man for sticking to and applying the teachings of Islam is a disbeliever. This is regardless of whether it is concerning woman's hijab or any other matter of the Shariah. This is based on the following narration from ibn Umar: At a gathering during the Battle of Tabuk, one man said, "I have not seen anyone like our Quranic readers who is more desirous of food, more lying in speech and more cowardly when meeting the enemy." A man said, "You have lied and you are a liar. I shall definitely tell the Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) about that." That news was conveyed to the Messenger of Allah and the Quran was revealed. Abdullah ibn Umar added, "I saw the man holding on to the bag
