Can a person be a disbeliever despite his saying laa ilaaha ill Allaah?

Indeed all praise is for Allah and may peace and blessings be upon His Messenger,his family, his companions and all those who follow upon his way until theLast Day.

To proceed.

As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Question:Can a person commit kufr (disbelief) whilst upon his tongue is laa ilaaha ill Allaah (none has the right to be worshipped in Truth except Allaah)?


Answer:A person can indeed become a disbeliever in front of Allaah whilst he says la ilaaha ill Allaah.
And this is just like the hypocrite who said la ilaaha ill Allaah with his tongue and he did not believe with his heart, such as Abdullaah ibn Abee Sulool and the like of him.
And with Allaah is the tawfeeq. And may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.

      -------------------- Subject: good or be silent   Every Mukallaf should safeguard his tongue against all kinds of loose talk except when it is evident that talking will be a means of beneficence. When talking and being quiet are both equal as a prudent measure, then the Sunna is to abstain from speech. This is because even lawful speech may lead to unlawful or unpleasant matters. This is, unfortunately, a common practice. Abu-Hurairah reported that the Prophet (pbuh) said:   "Whosoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak what is good or be silent."
